Short Summary
A complete transformation of a deteriorated home into a refined modern residence—stone, wood, and glass come together to create a warm, contemporary retreat rooted in its natural surroundings.
Project Description
Once abandoned and in severe disrepair, this hillside home was completely reimagined from the ground up. The original structure—marked by decay, failing roofs, and a fragmented layout—was stripped back to its stone foundation and reinvented as a cohesive modern residence that honors its wooded setting.
Mandra Workshop approached the redesign with a focus on proportion, texture, and material honesty. The new composition introduces a series of gabled volumes clad in weathered wood siding, anchored by stone elements that reference the original masonry. A contrasting black entry volume connects the wings, defining the new architectural identity with clarity and balance.
What was once a forgotten shell has become a timeless home that feels both grounded and contemporary—a study in renewal, restraint, and architectural craft.
