Project Description
Built in the early 1900s and once used as a local bar, this three-story brick Victorian stood weathered and forgotten overlooking the Hudson River. Mandra Workshop approached its renewal with deliberate contrast — preserving the original red brick and ornate cornices while introducing a crisp modern addition clad in dark siding and metal panels.

The new volume at the rear opens the home to natural light, featuring vaulted ceilings and a sculptural spiral stair that anchors the interior. The interplay of materials — traditional brick against matte black cladding — creates a powerful dialogue between past and present, grounding the home’s history while asserting a distinctly contemporary identity.
